I Spent Too Long Fixing the Top of a Letter

I was working on a letter one day and realized the writing wasn’t the problem.

The page just looked unfinished.

I had the name, address, phone number, maybe a logo. None of it was complicated. But getting all of that to sit nicely at the top of the page somehow took longer than writing the actual letter.

That felt backwards.

So I made a small Letterhead Generator.

The idea was pretty simple: pick a layout, add your details, write the letter, and export it.

I didn’t want to turn it into another full design app.

There are enough of those already.

I just wanted a few good starting layouts and enough control to make the page feel like mine — logo, colors, fonts, spacing, that sort of thing.

I also spent more time than I expected on printing.

A letterhead can look great on screen and still come out slightly wrong on paper, so I wanted the U.S. Letter and A4 previews to match the final PDF as closely as possible.

Long letters needed a little thought too.

Some people want the full letterhead on every page. Others only want it on page one. So I added both.

The whole thing runs in the browser, including the logo and document content.

That matters to me because letters often have names, addresses, phone numbers, and other things that really don’t need to be uploaded somewhere just to make a PDF.

It’s not a big app.

It does one fairly boring job.

But now when I need a letter to look a little more finished, I don’t have to start from a blank page and mess around with margins for twenty minutes.

That was the point.
