How to extract text from an image

  1. Choose a clear image. Add a photo or screenshot. English text recognition starts automatically; use Cancel if you want to adjust the image first.
  2. Review and refine. Rotate sideways pages or try grayscale for faint text, then choose Recognize again. Each image keeps its own editable result.
  3. Take the text with you. Copy the words or download a UTF-8 TXT file. Download all combines the results in upload order.

Supported image formats

Use JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, or browser-decodable BMP files. TIFF, HEIC, GIF, SVG, and PDF are not supported here. A maximum of 10 images and 60 MB of files can be open at once. Images over 40 megapixels are refused before decoding; accepted images are reduced to at most 4 megapixels for recognition.

How accurate is image to text OCR?

Clear, upright English print works best. Small lettering, blurry photos, complex columns, colored backgrounds, and slanted pages may produce mistakes. OCR does not reproduce the original page layout or guarantee exact text. Rotate sideways images here; crop or straighten a tilted photo in Image Cropper first.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Images and recognized text are processed in your browser and are not sent to our servers. The OCR engine and English model download from HandyPebble when needed. The browser may cache that model, but this tool does not save your images, text, or recognition history. Download anything you want to keep before leaving.
