How to clean up a document photo

  1. Start with a sharp photo. Keep every paper corner in view. Choose JPG, PNG, or WebP from your device.
  2. Straighten it. Choose Adjust four corners, move each point to the paper edge, and apply. Rotate sideways pages before cropping.
  3. Find a readable finish. Document keeps some color; Grayscale removes color; Black & white creates a high-contrast copy. Use Original to preserve photo tones.
  4. Review and save. Zoom in to inspect small letters, then download an image or a one-page PDF. Your source file is never overwritten.

Make a document photo look like a scan

Four-corner correction straightens a flat sheet photographed at an angle. It cannot flatten curved books or recover letters that were out of focus. The output proportions are estimated from the selected edges; photograph straight on for precise shapes.

Reduce shadows without losing faint writing

Background cleanup evens out local paper brightness. Start gently: too much cleanup or black-and-white processing can erase light pencil marks, pale stamps, or colored highlights. Compare the result at 200% before saving important records. This tool improves appearance; it does not verify document authenticity.

Print at the intended size

Choose Letter or A4 and match that size in the print dialog. Use 100% / Actual size, turn off browser headers and footers, and review the single-page preview. Original size uses 300 pixels per inch because a photograph does not reliably describe the paper's physical dimensions. PDF contains the full-resolution cleaned image, not a screenshot of this workspace.

Frequently asked questions

Are my document photos uploaded?

No. Processing runs in a worker in your browser. Your photo is not sent to a server and is not saved in browser storage. Download your work before closing the page.

Does it detect the page corners automatically?

Not in this version. You place four corners yourself so you can verify the paper edges. There is no automatic page detection or handwriting recognition.

Can it remove every shadow?

No. Moderate uneven lighting can be improved, but a deep shadow, glare, or clipped white area may have lost information. Try a new photo in soft, even light when needed.

Is the exported image reduced?

No preview downscaling is used for export. The crop is processed at its calculated source-pixel dimensions. To keep memory use manageable, this version accepts up to 16 megapixels and 15 MB per image.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. Undo and Redo keep up to 30 adjustments for the current photo. Replacing the photo starts a new history. Reset crop restores the entire rotated image; Reset adjustments restores the default finish.

Can I save a searchable PDF?

The PDF contains an image, not selectable text. Use Image to Text separately to extract printed English.

Can I clean several pages at once?

This version handles one photo at a time and exports one PDF page. You can combine saved PDFs with PDF Merger.

Why does black and white lose colored marks?

It turns each pixel into black or white based on nearby brightness. Use Document or Grayscale for faint ink, photos, stamps, and highlights.
