How to use Halftone Image Maker
- Pick a photo. Portraits, strong architecture, and clear objects work well. Try the sample to compare the five patterns on the same image.
- Choose the pattern. Classic Dot uses tone-sized dots. Line Halftone varies the width of continuous bands. Square Halftone uses square marks. Circular Pattern follows concentric rings, and Retro Poster adds a coarse, offset two-pass print texture.
- Set the ink and spacing. Smaller spacing and higher density preserve more detail. Dot / line size changes coverage. Dot shape applies to Classic Dot and Retro Poster. Color mode can use black, one ink on white, two colors, or sampled photo colors.
- Finish the tones. Use brightness, contrast, gamma, and exposure to bring out the subject. Detail level adjusts the sample area; Edge softness gently softens the finished pattern. Download the full-resolution result, or fit it to Letter or A4.
Printing tips
Choose US Letter or A4 and use the same paper in your printer dialog. Print at Actual size / 100%, with browser headers and footers turned off. Make a test print before printing a batch. A small source image cannot gain detail by being enlarged.
Privacy and supported photos
JPG, PNG, and WebP photos are processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Each photo can be up to 15 MB and 16 megapixels, with a maximum side length of 10,000 pixels. Download your work before closing the page.
Frequently asked questions
Is this just a black-and-white filter?
No. It samples photo tones and draws dots, squares, continuous lines, or concentric bands. Darker areas generally receive larger marks.
Why do dots look uneven when zoomed out?
Fine patterns can interfere with screen pixels at small preview sizes. Zoom in or open the downloaded image at 100% to inspect the actual marks.
Can I choose two ink colors?
Yes. Select Duotone, then choose Ink color and Second color. Full color instead samples color from the original photo.
Is this a press-ready CMYK separation?
No. The files are RGB artwork. Ask your printer about their screen frequency, color separation, and resolution requirements before commercial production.
Can I undo changes?
Undo and Redo keep the last 30 settings changes for this photo. Reset this style restores the current style’s defaults. Replacing a photo starts a new history.
