Shadow color sets the dark tones; Highlight color sets the bright tones. Midtone balance changes the transition without adding a third ink color.

How to use Duotone Photo Maker

  1. Choose a photo and palette. Portraits, architecture, and bold shapes work well. The palette cards show actual results from the sample photo.
  2. Set your two colors. Choose Shadow color and Highlight color. Swap the light and dark areas with Invert tones. Effect strength blends with the original photo when you want some original color to remain.
  3. Shape the tones. Midtone balance shifts the midpoint. Contrast and Brightness change tonal separation. Color blend moves between an encoded-color transition and a brighter linear-light transition.
  4. Save the artwork. Download PNG or JPG at the original pixel dimensions, or print onto US Letter or A4. Digital RGB output is not a two-ink commercial print separation.

Printing tips

Use the same Letter or A4 paper in this tool and your printer dialog. Choose Actual size / 100%, and turn off browser headers and footers. The complete photo fits inside the selected margins without stretching.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there more than two visible shades?

Two endpoint colors are blended across the photo’s tones. Smooth intermediate shades preserve detail; this is different from a two-color threshold poster.

Can I use my own palette?

Yes. Both endpoint colors are editable. Choosing another preset replaces the palette and tone settings; Undo restores the previous step.

Is this suitable for commercial two-ink printing?

The download is an RGB image, not separated spot-color plates. Ask your printer how they want the artwork prepared.

Where are my photos processed?

On this device, inside your browser. Photos are not uploaded, and no account is required. Opening the website still makes ordinary page and asset requests.

Will my original files change?

No. Downloads are new copies. Photos, masks, and adjustments stay in this page session only; download your work before closing it.

Which images can I open?

JPG, PNG, and WebP, up to 15 MB and 16 megapixels per photo, with no side over 10,000 pixels. HEIC, RAW files, and animated images are not supported.

Does the download keep its resolution?

Yes. PNG and JPG downloads keep the oriented source width and height. PNG keeps transparency; JPG places transparency on white. Downloads are newly encoded pixels, not copies of the original metadata.

Can I undo an adjustment?

Undo and Redo keep the last 30 changes for each photo while this page stays open. Reset adjustments returns to the selected starting look. Selections and photos are not saved after you close the page.
