Paint over your subject to keep it sharp. There is no automatic subject detection. Blur is a visual effect, not a safe way to hide private information.

How to use Photo Background Blur

  1. Open a photo. The sample includes a hand-painted selection so you can see a finished effect. Your own photo starts without a selection, with blur across the whole image.
  2. Keep the subject sharp. Use Keep sharp and paint over your subject. Erase removes protection. Zoom in for edges, change Brush size and Hardness, and use Pan to move around a larger preview.
  3. Soften the background. Choose a blur starting point, then adjust Blur radius and Blur strength. A little Edge feather softens the transition. Background brightness and saturation affect only the unprotected area.
  4. Download or print. Compare the original and result, then download a full-resolution PNG or JPG. Print fits the complete result onto US Letter or A4 with safe margins.

Printing tips

Use the same Letter or A4 paper in this tool and your printer dialog. Choose Actual size / 100%, and turn off browser headers and footers. The complete photo fits inside the selected margins without stretching.

Frequently asked questions

Does this find the subject automatically?

No. You paint the protected subject yourself. This keeps the tool local and avoids making an automatic subject-detection promise.

Is the lens effect real optical blur?

No. Gentle lens look is a low-strength, softened Gaussian treatment with quieter background color. It simulates a soft look, not camera depth, lens bokeh, or missing scene detail.

Why do detailed edges need extra care?

Hair, fur, glass, and motion-softened edges often contain both subject and background colors. Use a softer, smaller brush and inspect the result; manual selection cannot recover hidden background pixels.

Where are my photos processed?

On this device, inside your browser. Photos are not uploaded, and no account is required. Opening the website still makes ordinary page and asset requests.

Will my original files change?

No. Downloads are new copies. Photos, masks, and adjustments stay in this page session only; download your work before closing it.

Which images can I open?

JPG, PNG, and WebP, up to 15 MB and 16 megapixels per photo, with no side over 10,000 pixels. HEIC, RAW files, and animated images are not supported.

Does the download keep its resolution?

Yes. PNG and JPG downloads keep the oriented source width and height. PNG keeps transparency; JPG places transparency on white. Downloads are newly encoded pixels, not copies of the original metadata.

Can I undo an adjustment?

Undo and Redo keep the last 30 changes for each photo while this page stays open. Reset adjustments returns to the selected starting look. Selections and photos are not saved after you close the page.
